The Art of our Handcrafted Magic Hats: A Guide to Understanding the Process

Hi All, Zaid here and excited about our first blog post. We’re doing this because we get a lot of questions about the process even though we give ppl snippets in our reels. This blog post touches on the HOW and WHY we do what we love.

In an era where mass-production has become the norm, it's refreshing to find a product that still embodies the art of traditional craftsmanship. Custom handcrafted fedora hats are a prime example of this, with each of our Magic Hats representing the care, attention to detail, creativity and passion of our artisanal bohemian spirit.

Below, we will delve into the intricate process of handcrafting our WeTheInfinite Magic Hats, showcasing the unique benefits of choosing a premium, handcrafted hat over a cheap mass-produced one.

The Process of Handcrafting a WeTheInfinite Magic Hat

Handcrafting a fedora hat is a multi-step process that requires a high level of skill and precision. Here's a brief overview of what goes into each creation:

1. Intention: For us this is the sacred union between us and the buyer. When we first meet we get to know each other, understand what are backgrounds and passions are and what the intention for making the purchase is. This allows us to add a unique details to the hat based on this initial intention. It is the bond between us and every person who purchases our hats.

2. Selecting the Right Materials: The first step in handcrafting a fedora hat is selecting the right materials. Hatmakers choose high-quality materials such as wool, fur, or rabbit fur felt to ensure the hat's durability and longevity. We use rabbit felt which we feel holds up really well and had a great finish.

3. Shaping the Crown: Once the materials are selected, the next step is to shape the crown of the hat. This is done by hand using steam and wooden blocks to stretch and shape the felt. We use a combination of tools to ensure the crease is created at the point of the crown and brim and with a tight piece of string we allow that to settle for a few days to create the shape.

4. Styling the Crown : Once the crown is firmly shaped and molded with the hat block, we remove the block and add steam to the top of the crown. We then use our hands to delicately create the agreed shape on top of the crown that can range from tear drop, diamond, oval and telescope which are the ones we predominantly use

5. Creating the Brim: After the crown is shaped, we then create the brim of the hat. We use a custom steam iron to press the brim and cut it to the desired length using a brim-cutter.

6. Attaching the Medicine Band: Next, we attached our medicine band around the base of the crown. This is what makes our hat unique and what we pride ourselves on. The band pays homage to our spiritual journey, especially the altars containing all the tools that help clear the spaces for us to do our practice. We have found a way to include crystals, palo santo, copal sticks and a range of other spiritual tools in our band as gift to whomever buys our hats. It is our way of ensuring these tools are in the hands of the right people and that’d pretty much the process .
